Before the country Brazil was founded, the name of Brazilwood is given to several tree species, all in the family Fabaceae, and is most often used to refer to Caesalpinia echinata, also applied to Caesalpinia sappan. Brazilwood means "red wood" in Portuguese. So it's acturally red-wood, that bow maker are using to make a viola bow.
